About the Symposium
The International Symposium on History Education (ISHE) is a prestigious academic event established in 2010 to promote collaboration and interaction among scholars, educators, and students working in diverse fields, such as history education, the history of education, and historiography. ISHE aims to create a great place for sharing ideas, research results, and new teaching methods that will improve how history is understood and taught by bringing together people from different fields.
Held annually in different cities across Turkey, the symposium not only reflects our country’s rich historical and cultural heritage but also offers a unique setting for academic discourse. The selection of the symposium’s location serves to highlight Turkey’s historically and culturally rich cities while providing an opportunity to witness the city’s past through local historical narratives and educational practices. The symposium focuses on deepening the understanding of the importance of history education in today’s world by disseminating current developments and discussions in the fields of history and history education to a broad audience, including educators, policymakers, and the general public.
In 2026, the 12th ISHE will be held in the city of Kastamonu—renowned for its magnificent history, culture, natural beauty, and tourism—hosted by the Graduate School of Kastamonu University. Taking place from September 1–3, this year’s symposium promises to be a rich and rewarding experience for all participants. We look forward to your participation in a diverse program featuring keynote speeches by leading experts in the field, panel discussions, workshops, and opportunities for collaboration.
